Verify the email address before the form is submitted

An email address typed into a form is a guess until someone reads mail at it. Typos, throwaway addresses and the occasional prank all look the same in a spreadsheet. If a follow-up depends on that address, you find out too late.

On Pro, an Email question can ask the respondent to prove the address is theirs before the form accepts it.

One switch on the question

Open the Email question, turn on Verify email address, publish. That is the whole setup. There is nothing to connect and no template to write: the code comes from the Nextforms sender.

What the respondent sees

They type their address and click Verify email address. A 6-digit code lands in their inbox within seconds; they enter it under the field and the form shows a check mark. Change the address and the check disappears until the new one is verified. Submit stays refused until every verified field is confirmed.

Codes expire after ten minutes and allow five attempts. Nothing about the flow depends on the respondent staying on the page: a half-filled form saved in the browser keeps its verification.

What you see

• Responses show a Verified badge next to the address, and a check in the table.
• Exports get a Verified column beside the email column, so the sheet sorts on it.
• Workflows get a Verified variable for Sheets columns, webhook bodies and emails, and a “verified is” rule for routing, so an unverified sign-up can go to a review queue instead of straight through.

Applications and registrations where you will write back, quotes and proposals sent by email, anything that hands the respondent a login or a download later, and any form where a wrong address costs you the follow-up.
