Limit a form to one response per person
For votes, giveaways and one-place sign-ups: each person submits once, recognised by device, network or an answer like their email.
- Three ways to recognise a person
- Delete a response to allow a retry
- Free on every plan
Free forever, no credit card.
- Open Settings and turn on Limit to one response.
- Pick how a person is recognised: by device, network or an answer.
- That’s it. A second attempt is refused.
Pick how a person is recognised
- By their device: the same browser can’t submit twice.
- By their network address: one response from each connection.
- By an answer: one response per email address, member number or any other field that should be unique.
Recognising people by an answer is often the best fit: someone switching to their phone still can’t vote twice with the same email.
What it stops, and what it doesn’t
None of these is proof of identity: a determined person can use another email or another device. Treat it as a guard against duplicates. For proof that an email address belongs to the person, turn on email verification on the Email question (Pro).
Easy to undo
Deleting a response lets that person submit again, useful when someone made a mistake and wants another go.
Pairs well with
A response limit to stop after a number of responses, opening and closing dates, and a password for forms meant for a known group.
