Slack

A Slack step posts a message to a channel in your Slack workspace for each response. It’s available on every plan.

Go to Integrations, pick Slack, and sign in. Slack asks to add the Nextforms app to your workspace; it can post messages and see the list of channels. The connection is named after the workspace. Connect again to add another workspace.

In a workflow, add a Slack step and fill in:

  • Connection: the workspace.
  • Channel: like #sales. Public channels work straight away. For a private channel, add the Nextforms app to it in Slack first (in the channel: Add apps).
  • Message: your text, with answers and variables in it. All answers inserts every answered question as a list.

Write the message with simple formatting and it’s turned into Slack’s own: **bold**, _italic_, [link text](https://…) and lists. Headings are shown as plain text.

Answers are shown exactly as typed. A respondent can’t use an answer to ping @channel, mention someone, or slip in a link.

The Response link variable ({{response.ref}}) shows as a clickable “#12” that opens the response in Nextforms, for your team. Uploaded files show their names; the files stay in Nextforms.

The run shows the reason. The common ones:

  • The channel doesn’t exist, or it’s private and the app isn’t in it: check the name, or add the Nextforms app to the channel.
  • The channel is archived: pick another one.
  • The app was removed from the workspace: the connection is paused and runs wait. Reconnect it under Integrations, then retry.
  • Slack is limiting how fast messages are sent: Nextforms waits and retries by itself.

After fixing it, retry the step from the run. See Runs and fixing failures.
